The maroon clownfish (Amphiprion biaculeatus), also called the spine-cheeked anemonefish, is found across the Indo-Pacific from western Indonesia to Taiwan and the Great Barrier Reef. It is one of the largest anemonefish, with females growing to about 17 centimeters while males remain much smaller at 6 to 7 centimeters, and every individual carries a distinctive spine on each cheek. Coloring varies by sex and location, with males and juveniles bright red-orange and females ranging from maroon to dark brown, all marked with three body bars that may be white, grey, or yellow. Like other anemonefish it lives in symbiosis with sea anemones, its natural diet is algae and zooplankton, and the IUCN lists it as Least Concern.
