Chytrid Fungus

Fungi

Chytridiomycota, informally called chytrids, are a division of zoosporic fungi and one of the earliest-diverging lineages within the kingdom Fungi. Their name comes from the Ancient Greek word for little pot, describing the rounded structure that holds their unreleased zoospores before release. Membership in the fungal kingdom is confirmed by shared traits including chitin cell walls, a posterior whiplash flagellum, absorptive nutrition, use of glycogen as an energy store, and a shared biochemical pathway for synthesizing the amino acid lysine.
