The chytrids: a phylum of mostly aquatic or soil-dwelling fungi, unusual among fungi for producing motile spores (zoospores) that swim using a single flagellum. Chytridiomycota includes Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis, the pathogen behind the amphibian chytridiomycosis epidemic that has driven severe global amphibian declines.
