The caecilians: limbless, burrowing or aquatic amphibians with a long, worm-like or snake-like body, often mistaken at a glance for a large earthworm or a snake. Gymnophiona is the least-studied of the three amphibian orders, owing to its members' largely subterranean, tropical lifestyle.
