The club fungi: a phylum whose members produce spores on club-shaped structures called basidia, most visibly in the mushrooms, puffballs, bracket fungi and rusts that make up the phylum's fruiting bodies. Basidiomycota includes the majority of fungi people would recognize as mushrooms, as well as many destructive plant pathogens.
