The bull kauri is a conifer in the family Araucariaceae endemic to Australia, formally described in 1918, found almost entirely in the Atherton Tableland of Far North Queensland at elevations of 400 to 900 meters. It grows to about 50 meters tall with a trunk up to 2.7 meters in diameter, coarse flaky bark, cones with 160 to 210 scales, and soft, pale cream to brown timber. The IUCN Red List classifies it as Near Threatened due to habitat loss that has restricted its already limited range.
