Queensland Kauri

The Queensland kauri, also called kauri pine despite not being a true pine, is a conifer in the family Araucariaceae with a disjunct range across Papua New Guinea and two separate areas of Queensland, Australia, one near Gympie and Maryborough in the southeast and another from Ingham to Cooktown in the northeast. It is an evergreen reaching 30 to 40 meters, occasionally 50 meters, with a straight cylindrical trunk and orange brown to grey brown bark that sheds in large flakes. The IUCN and Queensland's Department of Environment and Science both classify it as Least Concern, though its Papua New Guinea population is assessed separately as Vulnerable due to ongoing logging.
