Reynoutria japonica, also known by the synonyms Fallopia japonica and Polygonum cuspidatum, is a herbaceous perennial plant in the knotweed and buckwheat family native to Japan, China and Korea, commonly called Japanese knotweed or Asian knotweed. Successfully established across numerous habitats in North America and Europe, it is classified as a pest and invasive species in several countries, even as its young stems are popular with foragers, prized for a flavor described as lemony rhubarb, and its flowers are valued by beekeepers.
