Amphilophus labiatus

Amphilophus labiatus, commonly called the red devil cichlid, is a large cichlid fish endemic to Lake Managua and Lake Nicaragua in Central America. First described by Albert Gunther in 1864, it shares its common name with a closely related species, Amphilophus citrinellus. Wild individuals show variable coloration ranging from grey to greyish green, with some fish showing pink, red, or white coloring, and the species forms monogamous pairs that spawn on flattened rocks or logs in its freshwater lake habitat.
