The peaceful betta, also called the crescent betta, is a species of gourami native to Southeast Asia, occurring naturally in southern Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia and introduced to Singapore. Males show blue hues over brownish bodies and are more colorful than females, and the species reaches a maximum length of about 6 centimeters. Like other bettas it has a labyrinth organ that lets it breathe air, allowing it to survive in oxygen poor water.
