Cretan Brake

Ferns and Fern Allies

Cretan brake, Pteris cretica, is a fern of the family Pteridaceae native to a broad range spanning southern Europe, Africa and Asia despite the Mediterranean island implied by its common name and species epithet. It is one of the most widely cultivated ferns in the world, valued as a houseplant and greenhouse ornamental for its arching, variously variegated fronds, and numerous cultivated varieties with crested or striped foliage have been selected from it.
