The Mauritian anemonefish (Amphiprion chrysogaster), described by Cuvier in 1830, is endemic to Mauritius and probably Reunion in the western Indian Ocean. It reaches about 14 centimeters and is very dark brown, almost black, with three white bars, an orange snout and breast, and a blackish tail. It hosts on three anemone species, including the magnificent sea anemone and Mertens' carpet sea anemone, defending each host from predators and parasites in exchange for shelter and scraps of food, and the IUCN rates it Least Concern.
