The ocellaris clownfish, also called the false percula clownfish or common clownfish, is a marine fish in the family Pomacentridae, which includes the clownfishes and damselfishes, and grows to about 11 centimetres long with females larger than males. Its colouring varies by location, from black individuals with white bands near northern Hawaii, North America, Australia, Southeast Asia and Japan to orange or red-brown individuals with three white bands elsewhere. It hatches near the ocean surface but travels to the bottom as a juvenile to find shelter in a host sea anemone, with which it forms a symbiotic relationship.
