Taiwania

Taiwania is a large coniferous tree and the sole widely recognized living species of its genus, found in scattered mountain populations in Taiwan, southern China, northern Myanmar and Vietnam. It is among the tallest tree species in Asia, with the largest known individuals in Taiwan exceeding 60 meters in height and ranking among the tallest trees ever recorded on the continent. The tree has a distinctive conical form with drooping branches and, in young trees, sharp, awl shaped juvenile foliage that becomes shorter and more scale like as the tree matures. Taiwania populations are fragmented and the species is considered vulnerable in parts of its range due to historical logging of old growth stands.
