The frilled lizard, also known as the frilled agama, frillneck lizard, frill-necked lizard or frilled dragon, is a species of lizard in the family Agamidae, native to northern Australia and southern New Guinea and the only member of its genus, Chlamydosaurus. Its common names refer to the large frill around its neck, normally folded against the body but flared to scare off predators or display to other lizards; it grows up to 90 centimetres from head to tail tip and can weigh 600 grams, with males larger and more robust than females, and its body is generally grey, brown, orangish-brown or black while the frill itself shows red, orange, yellow or white. Largely arboreal, it feeds mainly on insects and other invertebrates, is more active on or near the ground during the wet season, and retreats to shade in the upper canopy during the dry season; it breeds in the late dry season and early wet season, and the IUCN considers it a species of least concern.
