Lophira alata

Lophira alata, commonly known as azobe, ekki or the red ironwood tree, is a species of plant in the family Ochnaceae found in tropical moist lowland forests across West and Central Africa, including Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria, Gabon and Uganda. It grows a typically straight trunk to about 30 meters, with bark that turns from greenish grey when young to red brown when mature and bright red young leaves. Its wood is notably hard and rot resistant, valued for outdoor construction such as railroad ties, bridge planking and groynes, and its conservation status is Vulnerable.
