Thymus serpyllum

Thymus serpyllum is a species of flowering plant in the mint family, Lamiaceae, commonly known as Breckland thyme, wild thyme, creeping thyme, or elfin thyme. It grows as a low, usually prostrate subshrub with creeping stems up to about 10 centimeters tall and small oval evergreen leaves. The plant produces strongly scented flowers in lilac, pink-purple, or magenta shades, borne in clusters, and its foliage ranges from heavily herbal to lightly lemon in scent depending on the variety. It is native to most of Europe and North Africa and tolerates some pedestrian traffic, which has made it popular as a groundcover.
