Lamiaceae

Lamiaceae is a family of flowering plants in the order Lamiales, commonly called the mints, deadnettles, or sages, comprising about 236 genera and roughly 6,900 to 7,200 species. Its flowers are bilaterally symmetrical with five fused petals typically forming an upper and lower lip, and its leaves usually grow in opposite pairs, often at right angles to the pairs above and below, on stems that are frequently square in cross section. The family includes many well known culinary and medicinal plants, among them basil, mint, rosemary, sage, thyme, oregano, lavender, and catnip.
