Pineapple

The pineapple is a tropical plant of the family Bromeliaceae, grown for its edible fruit and considered the most economically significant plant in that family. Its scientific name is Ananas comosus. The species originated in South America, where it has been cultivated for many centuries, and it typically propagates from an offset at the top of the fruit or from a side shoot, maturing within about a year. What looks like a single pineapple fruit is actually a multiple fruit formed when its individual flowers fuse together.
