Chionanthus virginicus, the white fringetree, is a deciduous shrub or small tree in the olive family Oleaceae, native to savannas and lowlands of the northeastern and southeastern United States, from Massachusetts south to Florida and west to Oklahoma and Texas. It typically grows 10 to 11 meters tall and produces pure white, deeply four-lobed flowers with thread-like lobes and a rich scent, followed by dark blue to purple drupe fruit, and it is usually dioecious, with separate male and female plants. It is assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN and as Secure by NatureServe.
