This group gathers Flowering Plants subcategory members belonging chiefly to the two related orders Lamiales and Solanales, joined here as the report's own proposed scheme suggests because both are asterid orders rich in familiar culinary and ornamental plants with a broadly two-lipped or funnel-shaped flower. Lamiales contributes the mint family Lamiaceae (basil, sage, rosemary, lavender), the olive family Oleaceae, the snapdragon and foxglove families, the borage family, and the carnivorous bladderworts and butterworts of the family Lentibulariaceae, which trap prey with sticky leaves or underwater suction traps despite their otherwise ordinary Lamiales flower. Solanales contributes the nightshade family Solanaceae, source of the tomato, potato, pepper and tobacco alongside many toxic relatives, and the morning glory family Convolvulaceae. Many members across both orders are economically central food, spice or ornamental crops.
