Anise

Anise, also called aniseed, is a flowering plant in the carrot family Apiaceae, native to the eastern Mediterranean region and Southwest Asia. Its botanical name is Pimpinella anisum. Its seeds have a licorice-like flavor similar to star anise, fennel, and tarragon, and the plant has long been cultivated around the Mediterranean for culinary and beverage uses.
