The Chinese fir, Cunninghamia lanceolata, is a species of tree in the cypress family, Cupressaceae, native to south-central and southeast China despite its common name suggesting a closer relationship to true firs. It is among the most economically important timber trees in China, valued for fast growth and rot-resistant wood, and it is also commonly planted as an ornamental specimen tree in temperate regions elsewhere.
