All Other Flowering Plant Orders

This group gathers Flowering Plants subcategory members whose own order is a real, taxonomically valid lineage but is represented by too few members within this particular subcategory to justify its own heading here. It spans some of the most evolutionarily distinctive plants in the subcategory: Amborella, the single living species of the order Amborellales and, by most molecular analyses, the sister lineage to every other living flowering plant; the water lilies of the order Nymphaeales and the sacred lotus of the related order Proteales, both genuinely unrelated to the true lilies despite the common English name; the aroids, duckweeds and other aquatic monocots of the order Alismatales, including the corpse flower and the titan arum; the magnoliid orders Laurales (the bay laurel) and Piperales (the birthworts); the grape family of the order Vitales; the boxwood family of the order Buxales; and a scatter of single-member asterid and rosid orders such as Aquifoliales, Cornales and Dipsacales. No member of this group was placed here by keyword guesswork alone; each has a checked, real family assignment that simply falls outside every other, larger group this subcategory needed.
