Metarhizium anisopliae

Metarhizium anisopliae is a fungus and the type species of the genus Metarhizium. It grows naturally in soils worldwide and causes disease in a range of insects by acting as a parasitoid. It was originally named Entomophthora anisopliae by Ilya Mechnikov after the beetle species Anisoplia austriaca, from which it was first isolated, and fungi of this kind have since been valued as potential tools for pest management.
