Lepidosaur Reptile Orders

Lepidosaur Reptile Orders is a Browse By group of the Nature Atlas that gathers the orders of the lepidosaurs, the reptiles with overlapping scales and a skull built for flexible jaws, namely the lizards and snakes of Squamata and the tuatara of Rhynchocephalia. An entry belongs here when its own cited article describes an order of scaled reptiles that is either Squamata or its sister order Rhynchocephalia. It excludes the turtles and the crocodilians, which belong to the other living reptile lineage. Together the two orders make up the lepidosaurs, a lineage that is far larger in living species than any other reptile group, and the lizard-like tuatara keeps several primitive features that help show how the snakes and lizards of Squamata arose.
