Home›Fish›Other Bony FishGroupOther Bony FishThis group gathers Fish subcategory members belonging to a genuine bony-fish order or family too narrowly represented within this subcategory to justify its own heading here. It spans the pufferfish, boxfish and ocean sunfish of the order Tetraodontiformes, the seahorses, seadragons and pipefish of the order Syngnathiformes, whose males rather than females carry the developing eggs, the anglerfish, which lure prey with a modified fin ray acting as a living fishing pole, the killifish and pupfish of the order Cyprinodontiformes, several of them restricted to single desert springs, the piranhas, pacu and tigerfish of the order Characiformes, the flying fish, capable of gliding above the water's surface on enlarged, wing-like fins, the sticklebacks, the mudskippers, amphibious gobies able to breathe air and move across mud at low tide, and a further scatter of deep-sea and reef specialists including the blobfish, the giant oarfish and the snailfish genus Psednos, several of its species among the deepest-living fish ever recorded.FactsBrowse BySourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)FactsComparisonTaxonomic Rank OrderWell-attested5 1Reproductive
