Home›Echinoderms›Sea Cucumbers (Holothuroidea)GroupSea Cucumbers (Holothuroidea)Sea cucumbers, or holothurians, are echinoderms that are generally long and wormlike, so a casual observer might not realize they are related to starfish and sea lilies. They keep the five-rayed symmetry of echinoderms, with five rows of tube feet running from the mouth along the body. In most species the skeleton is reduced to microscopic spicules, often shaped like wheels, bars or anchors. One way to think of a sea cucumber is as a sea urchin lying on its side, stretched out and missing much of its skeleton. They are common in tidepools and other shallow water, and in parts of the deep sea the ocean floor swarms with vast herds of them.Browse BySourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)Browse ByAll Sea Cucumbers (Holothuroidea)Sea Cucumbers (Holothuroidea)4 entriesSea Cucumbers (Holothuroidea)Filter Results4 entriesCommon GroupAllSea Cucumbers (Holothuroidea) (4)TaxonomyAllEchinodermata (1)Holothuroidea (3)HabitatAllIntertidal Zone (1)Marine (1)Seagrass Meadow (1)Conservation StatusAllLeast Concern (1)Not Evaluated (1)Vulnerable (1)EcosystemAllCoral Reef Systems (1)Coral Sea (1)Great Barrier Reef (1)Everyday GroupAllSea Cucumbers (Holothuroidea) (4)DietAllDetritivore or Scavenger (3)System (Realm)AllMarine (4)Relationship to PeopleAllFarmed or Commercially Raised (1)Hunted or Fished (1)Kept as Pets (1)Living or ExtinctAllYes (3)Where It LivesAllColombia (1)Denmark (1)Gulf of Alaska (1)Kenya (1)Norway (1)Sweden (1)Show ResultsBrowseCompareSelect all 4California Sea CucumberEchinoderms2 linksHolothuria EdulisEchinoderms3 linksSea CucumberEchinoderms4 linksSea PigEchinoderms1 linkSourcesUC Museum of Paleontology: The HolothuroideaUC Museum of PaleontologyThe HolothuroideaQuote, The HolothuroideaHolothurians are generally long and wormlikeView the SourceHolothuria edulis (Wikipedia)Has Member: Holothuria Edulis, LeadQuote, Has Member: Holothuria Edulis, LeadHolothuria edulis, commonly known as the edible sea cucumber or the pink and black sea cucumber, is a species of echinoderm in the family Holothuriidae.View the SourceSea cucumber - WikipediaHas Member: Sea Cucumber, LeadQuote, Has Member: Sea Cucumber, LeadSea cucumbers are echinoderms from the class Holothuroidea ( HOL-ə-thyuu-ROY-dee-ə, HOH-lə-).View the SourceWikipedia: California sea cucumbertier 2WikipediaHas Member: California Sea Cucumber, LeadQuote, Has Member: California Sea Cucumber, LeadThe California sea cucumber (Apostichopus californicus), also known as the giant California sea cucumber, is a sea cucumber that can be found from the Gulf of Alaska to Baja California.View the SourceGBIF: Scotoplanes globosa (Théel, 1879)GBIFHas Member: Sea Pig, Species recordQuote, Has Member: Sea Pig, Species recordclass: HolothuroideaView the SourceComments (0)No comments yet.
