True Frog Genera (Ranidae)

True frog genera are the genera of the family Ranidae, a speciose, widespread and diverse family that has been redefined so often that its present definition is probably neither monophyletic nor permanent. Animal Diversity Web counts two subfamilies containing roughly 35 genera and more than 600 species, found worldwide except temperate South America, most of Australia, the West Indies and most oceanic islands. GBIF is led by Amolops with about 146 descendant taxa, Rana with about 132, Odorrana with about 96, Lithobates with about 81 and Pelophylax with about 43.
