Kallima

Kallima is a genus of butterflies, family Nymphalidae, subfamily Nymphalinae, tribe Kallimini, commonly known as oakleaf or oak leaf butterflies, comprising 10 currently recognized species found across East, South and Southeast Asia. The common name refers to the lower wing surface, various shades of brown resembling a dead leaf; when at rest with wings closed, the butterflies achieve a convincing mimicry of a dried leaf, an effect amplified by their distinctive wing shape. The genus was historically broader, but African species formerly classified within it have since been reassigned to the genera Kallimoides, Junonia, already live in this atlas, and Mallika.
