All Lilies And Orchids (Liliales/Asparagales)

This group gathers Flowering Plants subcategory members belonging to the two lily-like monocot orders Liliales and Asparagales, both defined by flower parts typically arranged in threes and a superficially similar strap-shaped or grass-like leaf, though the two orders are not one another's closest relatives within the monocots. Liliales contributes the true lilies and tulips of the family Liliaceae; Asparagales, by far the larger contributor here, spans the orchid family Orchidaceae, the single largest family of flowering plants, the asparagus family Asparagaceae (asparagus itself, agaves, hyacinths, bluebells and the dragon tree Dracaena), the amaryllis family Amaryllidaceae (onion, garlic and daffodil), the iris family Iridaceae, and the aloe and grass-tree family Asphodelaceae. A member is placed here only when its own family is genuinely within one of these two orders; several plants with lily in their common English name, among them the water lilies and the voodoo lily, belong to entirely unrelated families and are correctly left out of this group.
