Crocus sieberi, also known as Sieber's crocus, the Cretan crocus or snow crocus, is a small, early-blooming plant in the iris family Iridaceae, described by the botanist Jacques Gay. It grows only 7.6 to 10.2 centimeters tall and flowers marked by brilliant orange confined mainly to the stamens and style, fading through the lower third of each tepal. The species comprises four recognized subspecies distributed through the Balkans, chiefly Greece, including the island of Crete, as well as Bulgaria, Albania and North Macedonia, with different subspecies occupying Crete, the Attica region around Athens, and various sites in the Peloponnese and southern Balkans.
