The Chilean rose tarantula, Grammostola rosea, is a species of tarantula native to the arid scrublands of Chile and Argentina, named for the pinkish or rose-tinged hairs covering its body. It is among the most commonly kept tarantulas in the pet trade worldwide, prized for its docile temperament, slow movements and relatively mild venom compared to many other tarantula species, and like other tarantulas it can flick sharp, irritating hairs from its abdomen as a defense against predators.
