Neofelis

Neofelis is a genus of cats, family Felidae, subfamily Pantherinae, comprising two extant species, the clouded leopard, found from Nepal and Sikkim east to south China and Hainan and southeast to Myanmar, Annam, the Malay Peninsula and Sumatra, and the Sunda clouded leopard, probably restricted to Sumatra and Borneo; a Formosan subspecies is now extinct. Members have unusually elongated skulls and long canine teeth and can open their jaws to roughly ninety degrees, the widest gape of any living carnivoran. Both species are listed on CITES Appendix I, with hunting banned across most of their range, and are threatened chiefly by deforestation and poaching for skins, bones and traditional medicine.
