Mormoopidae, the mustached bats and ghost-faced bats, is a family of insectivorous bats found from the southwestern United States through Mexico, Central America and into South America. Members are named for fringes of stiff hair or fleshy folds around the lips and nostrils, and many roost in exceptionally large colonies in caves, sometimes numbering in the hundreds of thousands. They forage on flying insects, typically in open habitats near their cave roosts.
