Hyosciurus

Hyosciurus, the long-nosed squirrels, is a genus of two species endemic to the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia: the montane long-nosed squirrel and the lowland long-nosed squirrel. Placed in the family Sciuridae's subfamily Callosciurinae and formally described by Archbold and Tate in 1935 with the montane species as type, the genus takes its name from Greek elements meaning pig and squirrel, a reference to the notably elongated snout that distinguishes it from other squirrels.
