Furipteridae, the smoky bats or thumbless bats, is a family of two genera each with a single species, Amorphochilus schnablii, the smoky bat, and Furipterus horrens, the thumbless bat, found in Central and South America. They are distinguished by reduced or functionless thumbs enclosed within the wing membrane, broad funnel-shaped ears, greyish fur and a small nose-leaf, and are insectivorous bats that shelter mainly in caves. The family is considered closely allied with Natalidae and Thyropteridae.
