Hipposideridae, the Old World leaf-nosed bats, is a family of insectivorous bats distributed across Africa, Asia and Australia. Like the related horseshoe bats, they bear an elaborate horseshoe or leaf shaped nose-leaf used to direct echolocation calls emitted through the nostrils. Most species roost colonially in caves and forage for insects at night, often close to vegetation.
