Chrysocyon

Chrysocyon is a monotypic genus of canids, family Canidae, containing only the maned wolf, Chrysocyon brachyurus, the largest canid in South America at 20 to 30 kilograms and about 110 centimeters at the withers, found across Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Peru and Paraguay and nearly extinct locally in Uruguay. Despite its name it is neither a true wolf nor a fox, distinguished by slender legs, a dense reddish coat and a black mane, and forms a distinct lineage unrelated to other canids.
