Rhynchogale

Rhynchogale is a genus of mongoose in the family Herpestidae containing a single living species, Meller's mongoose (Rhynchogale melleri), a small brown mongoose native to savanna and woodland in southeastern Africa, ranging from central Tanzania south through Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe to Mozambique, Eswatini and northeastern South Africa. It measures about 80 centimeters overall, weighs 2 to 3 kilograms, and is solitary and nocturnal, feeding mainly on termites along with other small invertebrates and animals. It is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List but is described as uncommon to rare and easily overlooked or confused with related species.
