Tarsius is a genus of small primates in the family Tarsiidae, native to Sulawesi and nearby islands in Maritime Southeast Asia. Before a 2010 taxonomic revision, all tarsier species were classified within this one genus; the revision restored the genus Cephalopachus for the tarsiers of Sundaland and established the new genus Carlito for those of Greater Mindanao, leaving Tarsius confined to Sulawesi. The genus now contains twelve recognized species, and its fossil record extends back roughly 48.6 million years to the Eocene.
