Gliridae is the family of dormice, small nocturnal rodents found across Africa, Asia and Europe and named for hibernations that can run six months or longer. The family comprises nine genera and twenty eight living species, about half of them in the African genus Graphiurus. Mouse like in appearance with furred tails, dormice are excellent climbers adapted to life in trees, unusual among rodents in lacking a cecum, and feed omnivorously on berries, flowers, fruit, insects and nuts.
