Paraxerus, the African bush squirrels, is a genus of squirrel in the subfamily Xerinae, restricted to Africa. The genus contains eleven species, among them Alexander's bush squirrel, Boehm's bush squirrel, Smith's bush squirrel and Cooper's mountain squirrel. Smith's bush squirrel serves as the type species for the genus, which was formally established by Forsyth Major in 1893.
