Petaurista

Petaurista, the giant flying squirrels, is a genus of large flying squirrels found in forests and other wooded habitats across southern and eastern Asia. Taxonomists formally recognized eight species in 2005, with several more since split from former subspecies or newly described, so that as many as eighteen species are now sometimes recognized. Petaurista squirrels are mostly nocturnal, gliding long distances between trees using a patagium of skin stretched between their limbs, and while their diet is mainly plant material they will also take small animals such as insects.
