Pteromys, the Old World flying squirrels, is a genus of two species, the Japanese dwarf flying squirrel and the Siberian flying squirrel, distributed across temperate Eurasia, the Korean Peninsula, and Japan; it is the only flying squirrel genus present in Europe. Both species are large-eyed and nocturnal, gliding up to 135 meters using a membrane stretched from wrist to ankle, and feed on nuts, seeds, fruit, buds, bark, and insects.
