Chrotogale

Chrotogale is a monospecific genus of civet in the family Viverridae containing a single species, Owston's palm civet (Chrotogale owstoni), native to Vietnam, Laos and a small portion of southern China's Yunnan province, never found west of the Mekong River. It has a tawny buff grey body with strongly contrasting black markings including four bands on the back, measures about 57 centimeters in body length with a 43 centimeter tail and weighs 1.8 to 2.7 kilograms, and is solitary except during the mating season, active only in complete darkness. It is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List because of over-exploitation and habitat destruction and degradation.
