Cynogale

Cynogale is a genus of civet in the family Viverridae containing a single living species, the otter civet (Cynogale bennettii), a semiaquatic viverrid native to Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei. It has webbed feet and long stiff whiskers adapted for foraging, is nocturnal, and feeds mainly on fish, crabs and freshwater mollusks, preferring lowland primary forest though it also occurs in secondary and peat swamp forest at low elevations. It is classified as Endangered by the IUCN, threatened by habitat destruction, particularly the conversion of peat swamp forest to oil palm plantations, and by accidental capture in snares set for other species.
