Prionodon

Prionodon is a genus of carnivorans in the family Prionodontidae, commonly called Asiatic linsangs, native to Southeast Asia. It contains two living species, the banded linsang (Prionodon linsang) and the spotted linsang (Prionodon pardicolor), along with an extinct species described in 2025. The genus is considered a sister taxon to the cat family Felidae, and its members display large spots that sometimes merge into bands along the body, with skeletal and dental features closer to cats than to the civets with which they were historically classified.
