Galidictis

Galidictis is a genus in the subfamily Galidiinae of the family Eupleridae, a group of carnivorans endemic to Madagascar. It contains two species, the broad-striped Malagasy mongoose (Galidictis fasciata), which has two recognized subspecies, and Grandidier's mongoose (Galidictis grandidieri), both found only in Madagascar. The genus name derives from ancient Greek terms both meaning weasel, combining a root relating to the genus Galidia with the word iktis.
