Spermophilopsis

Spermophilopsis is a monotypic genus of squirrel containing a single species, the long-clawed ground squirrel, native to grassland and desert in northeastern Iran, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, northwestern Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. It is the only member of the tribe Xerini not native to Africa, distinguishing it from its African relatives among the ground squirrels. Its conservation status is assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
